ACCA Exemptions
ACCA recognises what you have already studied. If your degree or professional qualification covers the same ground as an ACCA paper, you can be exempt from it, which means fewer exams, a shorter route and lower cost. You can be exempt from a maximum of nine papers, covering the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels. There are no exemptions for the Strategic Professional level, so every student attempts those exams.

FAQs
ACCA is a globally recognised professional accounting qualification awarded by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. It covers financial reporting, audit, taxation, management accounting and strategic finance across three exam levels, an ethics module and 36 months of practical experience. It is recognised by employers in more than 180 countries.
Yes. Students can begin ACCA after Class 12, depending on ACCA’s entry requirements for their marks and subjects. Students from other streams can also start, and if you do not meet the direct-entry criteria, ACCA offers an alternative entry route. Our counsellors can check your eligibility and recommend the right starting point.
Yes. Many students study ACCA while completing B.Com. Your degree may earn exemptions, and recorded lectures and flexible exam windows make it easier to balance college and ACCA. We plan your timetable around your college schedule.
The total cost has two parts: fees paid to ACCA in pounds (registration, annual subscription, exam entry and exemption fees), and your coaching fee. The total depends on how many papers you attempt and how many attempts you need. See our fees section for Lakshya’s coaching fees, and our counsellors can prepare an estimate based on your exemptions.
The current ACCA qualification has 13 exams: 3 at Applied Knowledge, 6 at Applied Skills and 4 at Strategic Professional (two essentials and two options). Exemptions can reduce this by up to 9. From September 2027, ACCA moves to a redesigned structure of 11 exams, and students who start now keep credit for exams passed under ACCA’s transition rules.
Most students take 2 to 4 years, depending on exemptions and how many papers they attempt each session. Students with exemptions can finish sooner. You must also complete 36 months of practical experience, which can run alongside your exams.
B.Com graduates may be exempt from selected Applied Knowledge papers, and sometimes some Applied Skills papers, depending on their degree, university and year. The papers most commonly exempted are Business and Technology, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting and Corporate and Business Law. We check your exact exemptions with ACCA’s official calculator.
Yes. CA Inter students can claim exemptions paper by paper based on the ICAI papers they have cleared. Qualified CAs can claim up to nine exemptions and go straight to Strategic Professional. CMA holders may also be eligible, depending on the stage completed and experience.
ACCA runs four exam sessions each year, in March, June, September and December. Applied Knowledge exams are available on demand. The pass mark is 50% in every exam. Check ACCA’s website for exact dates and deadlines.
Market estimates suggest entry-level ACCA roles commonly start at around ₹4–8 lakh per annum, with Big 4 and multinational roles often at the higher end. Actual pay depends on the employer, city, role and how far you have progressed in the qualification.
Neither is better for everyone. ACCA suits global careers, international reporting standards and flexible, paper-by-paper study. CA suits statutory audit and tax practice in India. Many students pursue both, and qualified CAs can claim up to nine ACCA exemptions.
Yes, if you want a career with Big 4 firms, multinationals or global capability centres, or plan to work abroad. ACCA is recognised internationally, and its flexible structure suits students and working professionals. If you aim to practise Indian audit and tax, CA may be a more direct route.
ACCA-qualified professionals work in audit, financial reporting, taxation, management accounting, FP&A, risk, internal audit and finance consulting, in Big 4 firms, banks, multinationals and shared service centres in India and abroad.
The right institute depends on your goals, but compare a few things before you enrol: verified ACCA approval status on ACCA’s own directory, faculty experience, mock exams and feedback, doubt support, flexible learning options and clear fees.
