FAQs
It is challenging but manageable. Unlike many Indian professional exams that focus heavily on rote memorization and theory, the US CMA focuses on practical application and logic. If you have a strong grasp of financial concepts and enjoy analytical problem-solving, you may find it more intuitive than traditional Indian exams.
Yes. You can sit for the US CMA exams immediately after completing your 12th grade. However, to receive the official CMA Certification, you must eventually complete:
- A Bachelor’s degree (in any stream) from an accredited university.
- Two years of relevant professional work experience.
While the global pass rate usually averages between 45% and 50%, Indian candidates historically perform better, with success rates ranging from 55% to 65%.
- Passing Score: You need a minimum of 360 out of 500 to pass each part.
- Structure: You must pass the MCQ section with at least 50% to move on to the essay/case-based questions.
To earn the CMA designation, you must satisfy the following “Three Pillars”:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university OR a professional certification (like CA, CS, or ICWA).
- Experience: Two years of continuous professional experience in management accounting or financial management (can be completed within 7 years of passing the exams).
- Membership: Maintain an active membership with the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants).
The total cost depends on whether you are a student or a working professional.
- Professional: Approx. $1,500 – $1,900 (roughly ₹1.3L to ₹1.6L).
- Student: Approx. $1,000 – $1,300 (roughly ₹85k to ₹1.1L).
Note: These fees include IMA membership, entrance fees, and exam fees for both parts. Coaching fees and 18% GST are additional.
The course is divided into two comprehensive parts that can be taken in any order:
- Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics
- Focus: External Financial Reporting, Cost Management, Internal Controls, and Tech/Analytics.
- Part 2: Strategic Financial Management
- Focus: Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate Finance, Decision Analysis, and Risk Management.

The US CMA qualification significantly boosts earning potential, especially within MNCs and the “Big 4” accounting firms.
- Entry Level (Fresher): ₹5 – ₹8 Lakhs per annum (LPA).
- Mid-Level (3–6 Years): ₹10 – ₹18 Lakhs per annum.
